Another way museums have acquired artifacts is through exchange with other museums. Two artifacts Ashanti artifacts obtained through exchange with the Liverpool Museum. According to Jacklyn Lacey of the African Ethnology at the American Museum of Natural, museums partake in item exchange when a museum has more items from a particular area. Such museums will offer it to another museum that might lack those artifacts. In return, they get artifacts they don’t have. In terms of repatriation, exchanged artifacts become complicated as it adds another layer of ownership.
